IS-3 is a Soviet heavy tank, developed during World War II. It was mass-produced in last days of war , but missed the opportunity to take part in it. That is why usually this vehicle is called first of after war Soviet tanks. Abbreviation IS means Iosif Stalin. It was official name of Soviet heavy tank series of 1943'1945. Index 3 refers to third serial tank model of that series. Due to specific shape of its prow it got nickname Shchuka (Pike).
