The British units in the Indian army tended to get priority on equipment, but sometimes equipment wasn’t available and some units had to do without Boys anti-tank rifles and 2” light mortars. However, they are usually fully equipped with rifles and Bren light machine-guns, though usually only had very limited numbers of submachine-guns (Stens or Thompsons). By 1943 the Indian Army had begun to get a handle on what was required for fighting in the jungles of Burma. Troops began to receive some instruction in jungle warfare and equipment and weapons were supplied in the required numbers. Even clothing had been adapted to the conditions with lighter summer cotton uniforms dyed jungle green.
