The Soviet tank T-34 was designed in late 1940. By July of 1941, the Red army had about a thousand of these tanks. When German troops met these tanks in combat for the first time, they were often shocked, because they didn’t expect Soviets to have such powerful tanks.
Fast, well-armed, sturdy and reliable, T-34 was also easy to produce and relatively cheap. It allowed Soviets to produce an astonishing total of 87000 such tanks. T-34 became the most famous Soviet tank of World War II era. It is also considered one of the finest tanks of the period.
